This page can't be displayed - message appears after windows update

I was quite happily running Windows 7 Home Premium. I was given a 10 minute warning that my system had to be updated. I managed to delay this by postponing for a few days but eventually it just closed everything and ran. When the update was complete I

was unable to load any page. The screen showed "This page cannot be displayed"

Solutions included:

Make sure web addresses are correct - They were correct

Look for page with search engine - Impossible

Refresh page - F5 made no difference

Make sure TLS and SSL protocols are enabled. Followed Internet Options and TLS and SSL protocols are not listed. How can I enable them?

I restored back a few days (earliest available) when the 10 minute warning was already being given.

Now the useless page searchnu.com has become my default page instead of Google. When I press favourites to load Google an awful advert appears on screen (with Google). I cannot get rid of it.

But I am still being prompted to upgrade because I have restored.

HELP!
