Hello, I have an old desktop running XP Home edition. Having been away from the machine for twelve months, I powered up the machine with no problems. I updated my browser, anti-virus and a few other pieces of software. Throughout the day, Windows updates to the system

were downloaded. I opted to install them which it said it had done with no problems. I turned of the machine for the night normaly with no problem. The next day I tried to boot up the system. It said that Windows had ended abnormally, but suggested I load Windows normally. I tried, the Windows splash screen came up, but that was all. It then went back the start as though I had just powered on the machine.

It keeps going round this loop. I have tried opting for Safe mode in all its flavours, but it continues in the same loop.I have managed to boot a Puppy Linux system on the machine from a CD. There is a problem accessing the hard drive, I can only access it read-only.I have the original Home edition CD. Is a repair possible? If so how? Or will I have to start from scratch, if possible? Thanks in anticipation
