I've been researching these forums and the Internet in general, I found multiple so-called solutions to the aforesaid errors, done lots of things to my system, obviously to no avail. Even though I have no faith at all in these forums (based on my previous experience while running Vista), I'll make one last masochistic attempt because I've reached my Linux/Solaris engineer limits... I don't want to have to do that, so don't even think of proposing it as a solution... I've tried manual installs of the updates, deleted the WindowsUpdate folder/rebooted, ran FixIt, etc. - nothing worked. It looks like a hashing problem, but I'm no expert in Windows .dll files so ...
