AVCHD (.MTS) videos shooted in sony camera do not play sound in windows media player. please help

i have converted these videos to .mp4, avi and wmv formats and get sound. but the problem is that when i edit it (trim) in windows movie maker and save it i get no video but sound only. my pc is windows 7 32 bit home basic. can some one really help me
