Guest RCH Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I have two updates that refuse to install. I keep getting "Unable to Intall Update" and the update Icon is always on the taskbar. I have downloaded each update and tried manually, but I still get unable to install update with no error messages given. Can anyone help on this problem. Other updates install fine, just not these two. The other one is the Outlook Junk e-mail filter (KB936677) Thanks RCH
Guest gphx Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Hi RCH, I have the same issue. After several weeks of checking I've found reports of this problem being associated with some forced updates (they were done whether we had auto update turned on or not). Apparently, for those who have used the XP cd 'repair' facility, some updates can no longer run correctly because of OS changes made by the earlier updates. I have found no public postings of fixes, only that MSFT encourages those impacted by this issue to contact them for support. I'm assuming from this a cure exists, and that it isn't currently posted in the KB. If you have not used the XP cd repair function I don't have any answer. Guest gphx Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 BTW, I got around the issue with the Outlook junk email filter by choosing 'custom' install, unchecking the problematic SP3, and installing the filter by itself. For me it turned out the filter install was only failing because of the SP3 and by itself it installed successfully. Cheers "RCH" wrote: > I have two updates that refuse to install. I believe what you are talking about is: Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Guest RCH Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Thanks for the information, but it didn't work for me. I tried to install each individually, but each will still fail. I haven't use the XP cd repair program, so I'm just waiting on MS to release a new Junk Filter update that will take care of the problem. Not sure what I will do with the SP3 update for Office. Thanks again... Guest Astra52 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I don't know if you have sorted out your problem, but I have had the same one, and managed to solve it by 'repairing' my Office 2003 installation using the original disks. Guest RCH Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Yes, still have the problem. I tried the CD repair and it failed. Then I tried the re-install and it fails. For some unknown reason I can't even use the CD. I quess the only fix might be to un-install Office and then try the re-install, but I really hate doing that. Thanks...
