Guest Ken Richmond Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Hi All, My computer gets it's updates from Windows Update. Recently the Root Certificates Update keeps installing repeatedly. I've tried changing the settings for Root Certificate Updates in Add/Remove programs, but it makes no difference. I have also tried to install the update manually using the following link, but automatic updates tells me that this update still needs to be installed. http://www.msfn.org/board/print.html&client=printer&f=129&t=105195 Any ideas what might be causing this and how I can stop it? Thanks, Ken
Guest Ken Richmond Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I tried the following suggestion from a recent post: 1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window. 2. Net stop WuAuServ 3. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to Sdold. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window. 4. Net start WuAuServ The result was that TWO Root Certificate updates are continually being installed on my computer: They both appear in the Custom Install window and show with two different file sizes. 281KB 274KB I installed these updates, then two more appeared. Their file sizes were: 274KB 250KB I installed these updates, then two more appeared. Their file sizes were: 281KB 250KB Then again: 274KB 250KB And... 281KB 250KB and so on. Any suggestions? Guest Ken Richmond Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Hi, I've been out of the office over the last week. I beleive that all of these computers do have IE 7. There are two in question that I'm unsure about and won't know about them until later this week. Have you made any progress on this at your end? Guest ingallg Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Ken, our internal WSUS server had a root certificate update enabled from 3/1/2007 and once we unapproved that update, ran the current root certificate update offered by windows Update the issue appears to have gone away. I'm still waiting for more users to confirm this but so far feedback has been positive. In short, it appears that pc's here were trying to install the 3/1/2007 root certificate update and then were being alerted to the 'New' update over and over again until the 3/1/2007 update was unapproved. Hope this helps on your end. Thank you Gordon "Ken Richmond" wrote: > Hi, > > I've been out of the office over the last week. I beleive that all of these > computers do have IE 7.
