Guest John S Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I have tried numerous times to download and install updates without any sucess. I am getting an error code 0x800706B5. I have just upgraded to XP Pro from XP Home. I was able to get the first batch of updates with no problem, restarted the computer and then the next batch of updates downloaded but won't install. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. John

I am getting an error code 0x800706B5. I have just upgraded to XP > Pro from XP Home. 0x800706B5 indicates the following problem: "Eventlog service is not running. BITS tries to initialize the event logger object during initialization and fails to start, if the initialization fails. If event log service is not running, then the initialization fails with RPC_S_UNKNOWN_IF error" So make sure the "event log service" is up and running (Start -> Run -> services.msc [Hit Enter key or click on "OK"] Bye, Freudi
Guest John S Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Ottmar, Thanks for trying to help me get through this situation. This problem is becoming bigger. I have updated a couple of other computers and am having the same problem (I do have VLK) to cover all the machines I plan to update. I did as you suggested with the "event log service" but that did not seem to work either. Any other ideas? John.
