Guest freak0ut Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 ok so this is how it is: i install vista ultimate, everything is working smoothly. i go and do the windows update... leave my comp running unattended for an hour or so... and come back to find my computer OFF and non-functional. i press the power button but nothing happens. no fans, no hard drive, no lights, nothing. i can still hear the power supply working, but the fans don't come on. can anybody help me? i know a few other people with this problem and i am very sure all parts are working, all cables are connected, everything was re-seated.

The OS installed would not keep you from getting to the computer's BIOS. Can you get into the computer's BIOS? If nothing, disconnect AC and remove the battery for about 10 minutes. If there is video, exactly what? Guest freak0ut Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 this is on a desktop by the way. i can't get any video. it's just like pushing the power button when it's unplugged - nothing happens. it was working just a few hours ago until i decided to update vista. i don't think it could be hardware issues... but i could be wrong. Again - if NOTHING happens when the power button is pressed - this is not a software issue. There is much more than the software on the computer to the computer itself. If it was software - the computer screen would load up, tell you about the BIOS and stuff inside the computer, start to load the OS and then fail - but you would see something. If you remove the hard drive from an otherwise good computer, you will get more including Video with options to enter the BIOS. Disconnect power and open the case. Reseat ALL connections then try power on again.
