Guest JBall Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I am trying to upgrade a HP Pavilion a1777c desktop from Home Premium to Ultimate. I purchase an upgrade to Ultimate, there was a (or some) files downloaded to the computer. I am trying to use the upgrade anytime disk that came with the system. It looks likes the upgrade is almost done, but then stops and rolls back saying some system application could not be configured, but does not indicate which application. Upgrade adviser reports no problems except there is no status on my HP 1020 printer, so I re-tried the upgrade after deleting the printer, with the same results. I also looked at the two files in \panther, setupact looks like it written from the initial Vista install, in March of this year. setuperr is empty. I used notepad to look at them. I found a file named setuperr in /windows/logs. It looks like my attempts at upgrading have been recording to this file. The last entry is: 2007-10-09 14:18:22, Error CreateFileW failed, FileName:\\?\C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ff1234b533551aed9b465f6e291a4d6a\$dpx$.tmp\job.xml, Error:0x80070002 All other entries for other attempts look simular except for the base 16 type looking number in the middle after "Download". Any suggestions what this means or how I fix what ever problem there is? Thanks, Joe

You have somehow come into windows.updates group - which handles all problems concerning security/critical updates - the ones you get every Black Tuesday. Good luck Antioch

Guest Greg Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Thanks your message gave me enough to figure this one out.... This is what I did to get Anytime to work. I stopped the Windows Update service and nuked the c:\windows\Software distribution folder (the error you mentioned below is related to files downloaded to update the installation/setup.exe), this folder is recreated when the update service is restarted (It's a temporary data store for Windows Upddate). Then I removed the Microsoft C++ redistribed extensions through add remove programs, uninstall it, I targeted this because the "Error:0x80070002" is exclusive to this software... Then I autoran the install from the Anytime DVD, and bypassed the update installation files (recommended), that did.. In about an hour I have upgraded Vista Home Premium to Ultimate on an HP m8200n "JBall" wrote: > I am trying to upgrade a HP Pavilion a1777c desktop from Home Premium to > Ultimate.
