Guest AL Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I have Vista (Home Premium) set to manual updates. Whenever I open the Windows Update cotrol panel update, explorer crashes and requires a restart. The details are below. Any idea what is causing this or if it's a known issue? Guest Rob Harmer Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 It's not a Microsoft problem. From memory (4 weeks ago - time flies when you are having update problems) it is caused by a conflict arising out of Omnipage SE software that comes with some scanners. I ran a Canoscan 5200F and that has Omnipage SE on Vista Home Edition. Googling found the answer. Go to the Omnnipage site and register to download the entire software suite again to see if it works for you as I couldn't get it to work for me! Omnipage says it does. I followed all the rules and it didn't, so reverted my scanner back to XP Pro SP2 on another machine. This option may not be a luxury you can afford. Mind you the site offered the option to upgrade to the full version for a fee, so it makes you think they aren't that interested in fixing the issue. :<) Rob "AL" <al@al.al> wrote in message news:DBE61900-0F77-4D31-86F0-FDC8549EFC20@microsoft.com... >I have Vista (Home Premium) set to manual updates. Guest AL Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 I'm not using Omnipage SE but I do have a Canon scanner/printer and have their drivers installed. I wonder if this may be causing it. I have noticed there are newer drivers available on the Canon site so I'll download them and give them a try. Cheers.
