Guest SparkNuts Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I downloaded the service pack without a problem but when i try to install it gets to the point where it says "Checking for necessary space" and just sits there indefinitely, i let it sit for about 15 hours and nothing changed, i have 167 GB of free space on the hard drive so i don't think the problem is lack of space, and cant find any way to get past that point.

Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Please read: Preparing for installation http://winhlp.com/WxSP2.htm#Preparing_for_installation If SP2 was downloaded via Automatic Updates or from either of the update sites, suggest you download the entire package from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en or, order the CD and pay for shipping only: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx If there still is an issue installing it, then check the 'Cannot install Service Pack 2' heading to learn where and which logs you can check to see where the installation is failing and why it is failing to install. Guest SparkNuts Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Tried everything in the preparing for installation, ran virus and spyware scans, did disk cleanup and defrag, using the package downloaded from the windows website not windows update and every time it still sits on "Checking for necessary space" and doesn't get any farther.
