Guest Jasterisk Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 I have tried installing the service pack 2 on my home edition of XP and everytime it gets to the end of the installation a "access denied" message comes up and the service pack un-installs itself. i have a valid copy of the home edition (it came with the computer) so could anyone tell me why or what to do to get the serivce pack installed. I appreciate it.

I appreciate it. It might help if you gave the method of install - free disc or download. And, don't forget, having got the SP2 installed, you are only half way there - there are some 80+ security/criticals to install after SP2. There have been countless install/download probs with SP2, posted in this group, and no single solution works for all. Do a search in this newsgroup, or that cranky web interface in which you have posted, from now back to Oct/Nov last year when you should have updated to SP2. Also try Google to get as broad a picture as you can. The below may give you a starting point. If/when you get up to date, try and keep your computer up to date. I appreciate it. Saying that Windows XP 'came with the computer' doesn't imply that it is legitimate. -) After all - you never mentioned how you got your computer in the first place, if it was new or used, etc. The whole computer might have cost you $100 off the back of a truck. heh A quick Google Search for your symptoms was all that was needed to get you help... http://www.google.com/ search for : SP2 install "access denied" http://www.google.com/search?q=SP2+install+%22access+denied%22 First ranked item: You receive an "Access is denied" error message when you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148 A little further down the list: http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/acdensp2.htm Even a little further: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=8125 All of them should help you with your issue. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
