Guest Handshaw Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I'm having the same problem at home on my XP-Home PC as Roy...I select the update, it downloads and installs successfully, then during restart there are some special don't turn off the PC messages while the updates occur, without any errors...then after the restart you go to Windows update and it is still listed as being needed?!?
Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Please download and run : ..NET Framework setup verification tool http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/netfx_setupverifier.zip Go over the Readme, run the tool, and find out if .NET Framework 2.0 is installed properly. If it is not, uninstall ALL updates for it that are listed in Add/Remove Programs starting with the most *recent* one. There has been 3 Security Updates for .NET Framework 2.0 KB928365 supersedes the need to reinstall all 3, including KB917283 : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS07-040.mspx > Bulletins Replaced by This Update > MS06-033 [917283], MS06-056 [922770] Than uninstall .NET Framework 2.0 via Add/Remove Programs IF it will not uninstall from ARP, then run this tool : ..NET Framework cleanup tool http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip It will detect all versions of .NET that are installed. Have it remove ..NET Framework 2.0 Next, download .NET Framework 2.0 and SAVE it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.aspx?na=22&p=1&SrcDisplayLang=en&SrcCategoryId=&SrcFamilyId=&u=%2fdownloads%2fdetails.aspx%3fFamilyID%3d0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5%26DisplayLang%3den Download KB928365 [.NET Framework 2.0 SYSTEM.WEB.DLL and MSCOREE.DLL Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP] and SAVE it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=BA3CEB78-8E1B-4C38-ADFD-E8BC95AE548D PRIOR to installing .NET Framework 2.0 STRONGLY advise you to temporarily disable the installed antivirus software. Consult the Help file or the manufacturer's web site to learn how this is accomplished. ALL services of the antivirus software must also be disabled while the ..NET Framework and KB928365 are installed. If this makes you feel uncomfortable while still connected to the net or network, than disconnect the system from ALL connections. Install .NET Framework 2.0 and restart the system Install KB928365 and restart the system PRIOR to reconnecting the system, REENABLE the installed antivirus. That *should* eliminate any installation issues.
