Guest VideoGameAddict Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Hi,recently I had to re-run xp on my pc because a whole lot of things just started messing up:the color was completely wrong and out of context, windows went to the left of the desktop(???),and it wouldn't show the log-in screen.Well now I try installing service pack 2 again(though it worked perfectly fine before, for months)and the same problems happen again, and my pc isn't even a year old. Can someone please help?
Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Please define "re-run". Do you mean a Repair Installation you used an OEM Recovery Disk you reformatted and reinstalled XP ? If the system isn't even a year old, SP2 *should* have already been included either in the XP CD or the OEM Recovery Disk. Or, is this a used system that is older than one year ? The installation logs for SP2 are located in the WINDOWS directory [folder]. They are named srvcpack.log and setupapi.log. Check those logs for errors. Cannot install Service Pack 2 http://winhlp.com/WxSP2.htm#Cannot_install_Service_Pack_2 MowGreen [MVP 2003-2008] =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== VideoGameAddict wrote: > Hi,recently I had to re-run xp on my pc because a whole lot of things just > started messing up:the color was completely wrong and out of context, windows > went to the left of the desktop(???),and it wouldn't show the log-in > screen.Well now I try installing service pack 2 again(though it worked > perfectly fine before, for months)and the same problems happen again, and my pc > isn't even a year old. > Can someone please help?
