RE: Update failure solved

That didn't work either Allen. When I attempted to download....I received

the following error:

SL9A.tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the

inconvenience.

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an

update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server

Update Services

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336

and/or

Windows Update Error 0x80070002

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/c5f4d9e0-3eb6-426b-8118-0cedf489a75f1033.mspx

I'm new to this forum too.

I run Vista Business Version 6. This morning I received Windows Update

message recommending I install a Windows Update. I tried to do so only to be

told that had failed install. As suggested I tried again, and again. The

error code was 80070002.

I tried the <get help> link and did what I was told and tried the

installation again with the same result.

It is not totally clear (to me, at least) what the KB number of this install

is, although when I right click on 'Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack

1' in the 'View Available Updates' window, it tells me about the service pack

and refers me to http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=867460. So I

suppose the update number is likely to be KB867460.

Tamara, did you start the support incident? If so, will you please post any

response you get?

You can add me to the list as well. I haven't had any problems updating

(except for one major problem that Darrell Gorter fixed) in months. I am at

least glad to know the problem isn't at my end ... I hope.

George, TamaraB is not running Vista so whatever support tells her may not

apply to your problem. Best to start your own free support incident.

At this point we have no idea why so many machines are being offered updates

that were released ages ago (in your case, 3+ years ago and .NET Framework

1.1 probably isn't even installed on your machine).

Similar problem here.

Running Vista Home Premium, with 64x2 bitAMD.

Tried to instal the .NET Framework Service Pack update, got Error 80070002.

Deleted the files as per the solution offered by Help.

Ran update again, & the same thing happened on instalation.

Methinks someone made a mess of the update file & MS won't admit it.

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:

https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527

Support for Windows Update:

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from

Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no-charge for

support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call,

clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the

update's KB number (e.g., KB931678).

In other countries, see

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=securityhome > "No-Charge

Support...for virus and other security-related" issues in right-hand menu

for localized contact information.

The update that you are refering to has been available since 2004 for XP and

Vista

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a8f5654f-088e-40b2-bbdb-a83353618b38&DisplayLang=en

Apparently, some Windows Update files are corrupt on your system. Install it

from the above link. A secondary security update is also needed, which you

will be prompted to install afterwards if you run Windows Update again.

Thank you, Robear.

I have started started a support incident.

My machine has folders containing versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 of .NET

framework, but it is not clear which one is actually installed. If I type

..NET in the Start menu, it quickly finds a version 1.1 configuration

application.

If this updater was released 3+ years ago, it is certainly curious that it

has appeared saying it was released yesterday.

I'll post any response I get from Microsoft.

Ya i get the same crap for the update i do all the recommended deletions and

what not, Still This shyzz gives me the red ass. I know one thing for sure

that microsoft needs to quit releasing Operating Systems before the shyzz

works, without patch after patch. I may sound a little annoyed but i think i

have just cause. Since i pay damn good money for my computers. It seems to me

microsoft isnt interested in making Dependable products. Maybe its time to

get a mac.

The OP in question at that time definitely had 0x80070002 not 0x80070020.

I was aware of the closeness of the numbers but at this stage anything

possible.

He had turned off the AV software etc but forgot Spybot Teatimer.

The code was 0x80070002.

[sorry for sticking my nose in here, K. Asking about Spybot (Tea Timer) is

certainly worth a shot here.]

Just for fun I turned Kaspersky off and went through the file deletion and

update process again. Still no go.

For what it's worth: I do run Spybot. I turned it off, restarted and tried

the update again. 0x80070002 came the stern reply.

I must confess, I have not tried turning off AVG (which I also run)

I do not have Spybot installed. But I do have BitDefender Internet Security

running, as well as Windows Defender.

I have the same problem. I run windows update and get an error message

indication that "Some Updates Were Not Installed" along with error code

80070002. The update that did not install is Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1

Service Pack1. I followed the instructions in "Windows Help and Support" and

deleted in the DataDtore and Download folders located in the Windows and

SoftwareDistribution folders.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. GeorgeOF posted a good link

(http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=867460) that explains what

improvements the update provides AND what systems that it supports (including

Windows 98, Windows XP and Windows Vista). This one is going to have to be

tackled by MS, after researching the issue I see little to no help being

offerer by MS in the forums.

I think everyone is having this problem. There doesn't appear to be a

solution, probrably a MS problem. Best bet is to hide the update and check

back in a day or so. That's what I'm doing anyway.

Fallstar, BitDefender has been known to cause problems before in Vista.

Do you have real-time-protection turned on?

Virus scanning recommendations for computers that are running Windows Server

2003, Windows 2000, or Windows XP

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822158

This could also be relevant to Vista.

Perhaps the AVs are corrupting the softwaredistribution folder.

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an

update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server
