If anyone out there has Spybot Search & Destroy and while trying to run

Windows update you receive the error number 0x80070020 and this message:

"Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested

page".

I corrected the problem in my computer. It was the "Tea Timer" in Spybot S&D.

Bring up Spybot S&D and click on mode.....then select advanced mode....click

yes in the pop up box. Then click tools at lower left....then click

resident.....then uncheck the Resident "Tea Timer" box.

X out and that should do it and hopefully most will be able to get the

Windows updates.

You can go back after updating and put "Tea Timer" back on by following the

above steps. You may have to do the same thing next time you update unless

Spybot S&D fixes the glitch in the meantime.

Or a more simple way may be to right click on Spybot S&D in you task bar at

bottom of desktop and choose Resident in IE. From that menu uncheck "unblock

all bad pages silently" and also "Resident in IE " After you update you can

go back and put the above back on.

PS - "Tea Timer" ( if you have Spybot S&D) is an overall protection of

settings on your computer.

Hi all,

Iv'e seen the recommendations to disable tea timer but this permanently

disables spybot's real time protection ( until your remember turn it back

on). I prefer to temporararily close it, only for this session, so when I

restart my PC it will reactivate automatically.

How? Right click the spybot icon (on the start bar near the clock) and

choose "Exit Spybot-S&D Resident".

As simple as that.

By the way, spybot 1.5 beta (for vista) should be out soon. Hopefully this

error woun't reocur...
