Guest chappy60 Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I have read at least a dozen of microsoft customers nightmares re: the above.......I believe "Putnik" said it the best, "couldn't microsoft issue an automatic update to wipe out the lot and start again"! Apparently, there is no simple solution for the majority of us who are NOT COMPUTER TECH'S & are finding the various solutions from the many responses to be somewhat 'mind boggling' to say the least! p j

While we can appreciate your frustration and non-technical background - this is not the place to expect a response to your complaint. Most here are volunteers - most do not work for Microsoft in any form. We use the products and decided (on our own) to try and help others who might be having trouble using the same products. Start a free Windows Update support incident request: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527 Contact the actual source of the problem and complain there - perhaps they have an easier solution by now (combining efforts here, internally, etc.) Come back and let us know what happens! -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Guest chappy60 Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I in no way intended to suggest I required a solution from any of the microsoft customers who do postings the same as I do......my comments were in reference to the various suggestions from microsoft employees such as yourself. It was hopeful, due to the many requests for assistance, that these rather serious issues might possibly be referred to someone authorized to deal with them. F.Y.I. .....I started a "free Windows Update support incident request" last Thursday, July 12th!!!!!.......I am aware this IS NOT a support site & that any suggestions from m s employees are simply that......like everyone else, I am looking for a solution a.s.a.p. Thanks for your time and all of the volunteers. As just about everyone else you see respond here - I am a volunteer. I use Microsoft products and chose to help people in these newsgroups of my own free will. I'm glad you opened a ticket. My suggestion to you is that you tell everyone you know with the problem to do the same. Squeaky wheel gets the oil. CC other people if you desire when opening the ticket. Complain to your local newspaper. Etc. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Guest kappycrunch Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I have contacted Microsoft Windows Update Support and they also suggested to use the Uninstall Cleanup Tool. I have removed both the .NetFramework 1.1 and the 2.0 thiunking if I got rid of all of it I might get rid of the update notice, but no, I still have it on my takebar and when I shut down it's still there. I don't even know what this .NetFramework is for of if I need it, I really just want to get rid of the update notice so I can move on. Do I even need this on my computer? Has anyone tried to reinstall it to get rid of the update? Guest kappycrunch Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I think I have gotten rid of the update notice. This is what I did per the advice of Agnes Zheng at Microsoft Windows Update Support. after I Installed the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup utility and deleted all the ..NetFramwork stuff and have been working on this for two days...tonight I followed the rest of her suggestions and this is it from the begining The issue can be caused by a damaged .NET Framework component. At this time, let's refer to the following steps to troubleshoot this issue: Step 1: Download Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp utility ============================================ 1. Visit: http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D5E1BD/msicuu2.exe 2. Save the file to your Desktop 3. Please double click the file msicuu2.exe on the Desktop to install this tool on your computer. Step 2: Remove .NET Framework 1.1 ======================== 1. Click Start -> (All) Programs->Windows Installer Clean Up. 2. See if you can find .NET Framework software. If so, remove it. 3. Restart the computer and see if the issue still exists. For more information, please refer to: ----------- Title: Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kben-us290301 However, if any problem is encountered when trying to uninstall .NET Framework 1.1, we can also refer to the following Knowledge Base article to uninstall it manually. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320112 After that, please restart the computer and perform the following suggestions to reinstall .NET Framework 1.1 and the updates for it. Step 3: Install .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 ================================================================= 1. Please download the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package and the updates from the following link and save them to the C drive (C:\) Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/a/c/aac39226-8825-44ce-90e3-bf8203e74006/dotnetfx.exe Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/b/4/8b4addd8-e957-4dea-bdb8-c4e00af5b94b/NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366) http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/ndp1.1sp1-kb928366-x86_20112ef50011e0de2c0e3378139245d81a178b15.exe that seems to have fixed it for me...good luck "kappycrunch" wrote: > I have contacted Microsoft Windows Update Support and they also suggested to > use the Uninstall Cleanup Tool.
