Vista Updates Won't Stay Open

So about a week ago this problem started. Mid-update the computer stopped

functioning due to a power outtage and now this thing is FUBAR! Windows

update loads, but closes a second later, and when I manually download the

updates from the site, the installation says that it doesn't work and is not

needed.

 

When I go into devmgmt.msc there is no hardware detected. I have no sound,

no battery display for this laptop I'm surprised the keyboard and screen are

still working... for now.
