Guest capntawful Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 You said: 4. Launch the KB928366 installer. It will soon complain that it can't find the installation CD-ROM (don't ask me why). Browse to the folder where you unpacked the dotnetfx files. And do what??? Which of the 3 .exe files do you click to complete the installation of KB928366. Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Pardon me ? I never said anything. The quoted text is from another MVP. AFAIK, just browsing to the folder should be sufficient for the update to install. If not, sorry. Haven't had to do any such gymnastics to get the .NET updates to install on any systems under my watch. The installer usually knows which file it's looking for on a CD and *should* know which file is needed in the dotnetfx folder. Guest capntawful Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 I wasn't trying to be rude, I just felt that "4." was an incomplete answer. I did follow the steps in this threads as to fix this problem with MS Updates with .NET Framework and I'm still not able to get this to install. My question to MS, why did they put out an update, that's causing a lot of us to jump though hoops just to get the darn thing (.Net Framework 1.1 SP1 for Vista) to work. MowGreen, I too have never had a problem in the past 10+ years using Windows OS, but now that I have Vista, this is the 1st time... hmmm, make one wonder.
Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Not sure why Vista has such a tough time updating, capntawful. Some systems never have an issue, some update the first time Vista boots and then fail afterwards, and some never do update successfully . Could be an OEM 'issue' or interference from the installed antivirus software. 'tis why Vista will not be installed here until SP1 comes out <w> From what I've read in this newsgroup, the folks who have used Patrick's steps have been able to get the .NET update installed without specifying one of the files in the dotnetfx folder, they just browsed to said folder and the 'installer' located the correct file. But, those folks weren't running Vista. Perhaps the Event Viewer would reveal more information as to why it's not installing ... Eventvwr.msc > Applications and Services Log > Microsoft > Windows > WindowsUpdateClient > Operational That's about all I know as to where one would find relevant info in Vista as to updates failing to install.
