Guest Frixie Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I have 2 machines that I recently installed a genuine version of Windows XP Pro with SP2 slipstreamed into it. I got past the first round of Windows updates which downloaded and installed .NET framework, Genuine Advantage, etc etc. After a reboot and going back to windows update, 53 files need downloading and installing. Mostly security updates for XP. Both failed at install. No error codes. Tried it over and over again and it never installs and on every reboot, now keeps going out to windows update and tries to download all over again. I had to shut off the automatic updates. I upgraded a 3rd machine yesterday at a different location from XP Home to XP Pro with SP2. Same thing. After the first 3 updates, 60 were to download and install and all 60 failed. What is going on? I googled the problem and some say to uninstall Yahoo Toolbar, some say to update JAVA.it's none of those things. No Activex is being blocked. Two machines had Norton Security on them before I started the download. I was sure it was blocking something so I downloaded the Norton Removal Tool from the Symantec site and uninstalled Norton entirely. The third machine also has Norton Security which I uninstalled using the Norton Removal Tool before I even started. No difference, updates still failed. Now I'm guessing I have registry errors? Any ideas?
