Since I reinstalled Windows XP pro on my machine I am having problems with

Windows automatic updates. They download OK but installation fails. The same

thing happens on the Windows updates site. However I can install them

manually by selecting the details link for each one and going to the

download page. I have been through the fixes for Error code 0X80070002 all

to no avail.

Any suggestions please??

" reinstalled XP pro " as in a Repair Installation or a reformat and

then installing XP Pro ?

Try this -

Show hidden files, folders, and system files

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html#winxp

Now go to Start > Run > type in

net stop wuauserv

Click OK or press Enter

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to

WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution

Delete ALL of the subfolders of SoftwareDistribution

Download and *SAVE* -

Windows Update Agent 3.0 [x86 or 32 bit]

http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

KB927891

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A81B0CD-A0B9-497E-8A89-404327772E5A&displaylang=en

When the downloads are completed, close the browser and any other open

programs

Now install WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

Then install WindowsXP-KB927891-v3-x86-ENU.exe and restart the system

The Automatic Updates service should have Started automatically when the

system

was restarted as that is the Default setting

Check by going to Start > Run > type in

services.msc

Click OK

Locate Automatic Updates in the right frame and click once on it

Under Services (local), there should be a link for

Stop the service and

Restart the service

If it is different on the system, then the AU service has not restarted

Double click on Automatic Updates

Click the down arrow next to Startup type and set it to Automatic

Click Apply, OK

Close the Services console

Go to Start > Run > type in

wuauclt /detectnow

Click OK or press Enter

Did the updates come down and install now ?
