Guest ernieernie Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Windows Vista on my new computer downloads updates every day but every day it fails to install them, giving me the error code 8007007B If downloads won't work on a new computer, what chance is there when it gets old? Help! Ernieernie
Guest TaurArian [MS-MVP] Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 How to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder in Vista - 1. Stop the Windows Update service (make sure you are logged on as an Administrator) Start button || Control Panel ||System and Maintenance ||Administrative Tools Double-click Services (Provide the Administrator password or confirmation if prompted to do so.) Right-click the Windows Update service and click Stop. 2. Click Start, type %windir% in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. Locate and rename the SoftwareDistribution folder. 3. Start the Windows Update service Start button || Control Panel ||System and Maintenance ||Administrative Tools Double-click Services (Provide the Administrator password or confirmation if prompted to do so.) Right-click the Windows Update service and click Start. This procedure will erase your history on the Windows Update Site. Not important. You can check which updates are installed on your computer by - Start button || Control Panel || Programs Under Programs and Features - click View installed updates. Try WU again - some have to reboot first. -- ==================================== TaurArian [MS-MVP] 2005-2008 - Australia ==================================== How to make a good post: http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm Defending your machine: http://defendingyourmachine2.blogspot.com/ http://taurarian.mvps.org/index.htm Emails will not be acknowledged - please post to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Guest Debbie Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I followed these steps and did both without (first) and with (second time) a restart. It didn't resolve the problem. I'm getting this error trying to install the latest Windows Media Update #KB929399. Does anyone know how to get past this error message other than the process stated below? Thanks for your help. Guest Debbie Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Having just come off a two-week stint with Microsoft Customer Service via e-mail with no satisfaction in resolving a different problem, I have a very bad taste in my mouth regarding "pat" answers to questions. Had you actually READ my post, you would see that the first thing I said was that I just tried this suggestion...twice...and it didin't work. I was looking for a different "pat" answer, I guess. Why is it you guys can't actually use your own brain to provide responses...or is that what this is? If so, I may never get this "important" update installed. Please respond only if you really think you can help. Thank you. "Debbie" wrote: > I followed these steps and did both without (first) and with (second time) a > restart. Codes by themselves are almost useless as diagnostics. The context of the code in the other diagnostics logs is what would help you understand your symptom better. Good luck Robert Aldwinckle ---
