install! i just get an error telling me "some updates couldnt be instaled"

but none of them had been installed at all. when i look into the log files

for the updates i find the following error codes.

DoInstallation: CleanPFR failed: 0x2

UpdSpGetSourceFileLocation for halaacpi.dll failed: 0xe0000102

Update.exe extended error code = 0xf200

Update.exe extended error code = 0xf201

I hope you get an answer to this because I'm in the same boat. I've been

getting the downloads automatically but I find that none of them have or will

now install.

1. First install the newly released 'standalone' version of Windows Update

Agent 3.0, v7.0.6000.374

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932494

2. Now (re)install this (updated) fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891

NB: Windows Update/Automatic Updates started offering 927891 on 22 May-07.

If "Update for [Windows XP] (KB927891)" is listed in Add/Remove Programs

(make sure Show Updates box is checked), it's already installed. cf.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/927891.mspx

3. Reboot.

I'm replying to this post instead of beginning a new post with my issue

because the problem is the same: the updates have all downloaded (77 of

them!) but will not install. I've done these steps thanks for posting them.

I was successful in installing the stand-alone agent and installing 927891,

but the updates still won't install.

When I attempt to restart/shut-down the computer, it says there are updates

there to install. The next screen says it's installing 1 of 77, but the

computer just shuts down without installing them and nothing is changed when

I restart it.

I also downloaded the Windows Install Clean-up utility, thanks to another

post of yours, but only valid programs (Acrobat, Citrix, etc.) show up.

Any other thoughts on this tangle?

Try one (or both) of these:

(Some have the best luck performing Solution 1, rebooting and performing

steps 3-6 of solution 2...)

Solution to try (1):

Get Dial-a-Fix:

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Use its options to fix:

- Windows Installer

- Windows Update

- All the Registration Center options.

Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"

Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".

Then click "GO"

Solution to try (2):

1) Reboot and logon as a user with Administrative Privs...

2) Immediately run the following batch script (You will have to create it by

cutting/pasting as directed.)

- Click Start, Run, type: notepad C:\register.bat and press Enter. Choose

Yes when you are prompted.

- Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad

window:

To avoid confusion, please begin a new thread about /your/ problem. Thank

you.

Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before attempting

to install the update(s).

when you are doing these updates you have to see if thay are for sp1 or sp2

if you have sp2 look through and stop all sp1 from trying to up date that is

alot 75 updates

I don't have a clue and I sincerely hope you find a reasonable

solution soon. If all else fails, call Microsoft. It may cost you

some bucks if you don't have a retail license with service calls

still left on it, maybe $35 or so, but they will continue to help

you as many times as it takes, even with multiple calls on the

same issue, until they resolve it.

But, what intrigued me so much about your post was that you say

you re-installed Windows to improve performance. Could you

enlighten me as to how that could possibly help? I can understand

that you'd start with a fresh Registry unencombered by years of

crap being left behind by old apps, and I can understand that a

completely contiguous HD without fragments you can't defrag would

help your launch times, and I can understand getting rid of other

misc. old junk might help, but how on Earth would a nuke and re-

install do very much on boot up times, time to launch apps, and

overall system performance whilst doing normal work? Seems like a

pretty extreme thing to do, so I guess you must've had some

really heinous performance issues.

Pa Bear, the KB932494 is NOT for Windows 32 systems only for 64 or 86. Any

recommendations for us lowly 32 users? Thank you.

*grin*

x86 is the 32 bit version.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=What+is+x86

Follow these directions:

- Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad

window:
