Guest rchudson70 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Had a few days of computer working great. Windows error report. Cannot excess the file: C:\WINNT\system32\shell32.dll Microsoft gave solutions to try. I ran check disk. It gave to options I checked both of them. It had 5 stages on the 4th, Five different times it said windows replaced bad cluster file. It had five different file #'s. on stage 5 it froze up at 7% complete. This morning computer wouldn't come on. A window came up that gave me several options. One was start up in safe mode. I chose the one that said something like, last working configuration. It took forever to come on. I truly think my computer is fixing to crash. I'm afraid to turn it off again!! I'm a novice at all of this so be simple! Thanks in Advance. Cynthia rchudson70@hotmail.com
Guest PA Bear Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Windows version? How does your problem related to Windows Update? Is the machine fully patched at Window Update? What were the solutions MS gave you? Have you followed-up on your Support Incident to say you're still having problems? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin DTS-L.org rchudson70 wrote: > Had a few days of computer working great. > Windows error report. > Cannot excess the file: > C:\WINNT\system32\shell32.dll > Microsoft gave solutions to try. > I ran check disk. Guest rchudson70 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Windows XP Sp2 I may have posted this is the wrong place. I'm new at this. No updates in the last couple of days. On 7/14/07 had bad experience you helped me with don't know if this is still part of that or not. All the updates I've had lately have caused me serious problems. My computer hasn't been back to normal. This is where the error report sent me. http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/Response.aspx/1163/en-us/5.1.2600.2.00010300.2.0?SGD=abe832d1-7108-49a3-aa8d-9e92738db03a#here I haven't made an incident report lately. Thanks for you time!! "PA Bear" wrote: > Windows version? > > How does your problem related to Windows Update? All the updates I've had lately have caused > me serious problems According to your last reply in the thread http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsupdate/browse_frm/thread/579ac5745ee40385/266e0ee9f2efa5aa, you finally & successfully installed the Jul-07 updates, Cynthia. > ...This is where the error report sent me. OK, so you were not referring to a free Support Incident after all. If you feel that one or more of the Jul-07 updates are causing your problem(s), I'd recommend opening a free Support Incident. Make absolutely certain that you tell them that you think one or more of the updates are causing the problem(s) and state which updates you installed (refer to them by KB number). Start a free Windows Update support incident request https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527 Otherwise, I'd recommend beginning a new thread about your problem(s) in WinXP General newsgroup: On the web: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general In your newsreader: http://news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general -- ~PA Bear rchudson70 wrote: > Windows XP Sp2 > I may have posted this is the wrong place. > I'm new at this. > No updates in the last couple of days. > On 7/14/07 had bad experience you > helped me with don't know if this is still part of that > or not.
