8000FFFF error

As I see I have the same problem as lot of others. And still no solution...

I just bought a brand new HP Pavillon dv6000 laptop with Vista Home Premium

preinstalled. And I didn't manage to run the update. Always getting a

message: Windows could not search for new updates. Error(s) found: Code

8000FFFF

 

Any hints?

Only thing I can suggest is contact MS

 

Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from

Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no-charge for

support calls that are associated with security updates or using Automatic

Updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is. Note any error

codes etc.

 

In other countries, see http://support.microsoft.com/security

"No-Charge Support...for virus and other security-related" issues in

right-hand menu for localized contact information.

International Support Web site:

https://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

 

When you do get a response that works, please post back and let others know

That phone number cannot be right I get the infamous no service beeps and the

"The number you are trying to reach...."

Again... we are suffering the same generic unspecific error message when

trying to install updates... Windows also prevents me from uninstalling

existing updates AND i cannot do a system restore... this computer operates

on less than 2 gig of RAM as well... I'm equally disappointed that when you

search MS support for that particular error message there is no entry... but

when you search google I see thousands of issues...I can see the IT's at MS

now.... "Hey waddaya wanna do about that update issue thousands of people are

complaining about?"..."ehhhh... i dunno... wanna get some Starbucks?"...

So i started a support incident and got the problem fixed in a moderately

anoying way...

I was first told to goto::

Start > cmd > (right click) Run as administrator > type "sfc /scannow"

 

This showed me that nothing was wrong, BUT that a repair was pending a

restart...

that was a lie, because I restarted and did it again and it told me the same

thing... it's as if an update never got fully installed or something...

 

so the second thing was to use the VISTA DVD and initiate an upgrade from

the disk... IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ONLY USE THE DISC.... even though vista

recommends using current updates from the internet. I tried that and the

upgrade install failed... I retried just doing a plain old 'in-place' upgrade

using the disc...It took some time, but I get updates now no problem...
