Guest sawon66 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I want to use XXCLONE to make a recovery fast and easy the last one took 14 hours to get everything back XXCLONE would only require drive swap and then clean the old one, BUT WGA will see image from XXCLONE as a fake and kill updates and label me a thief. When does microsoft feel a real working recovery system will be provided us.

XXCOPY and other basic copy applications (no matter how elaborate their command line switch availability) is not what one trying to backup and bare-metal restore should consider for their plan. Something more along the lines of a complete image of the hard disk drive (BootItNG, Symantec Ghost, Acronis TrueImage, etc.) If you are actually changing hardware (not just hard disk drive, but several other components (or perhaps just one major one - like motherboard)) then you may need to consider a repair installation to update the HAL before the first boot into said operating system - and yes - you mayh likely have to re-activate and *if* it has been less than 120-180 days - you may have to activate by phone. As long as your copy is legitimate - everything should go quickly. I have heard horror stories with OEM copies - particularly large OEMs - but there are usually ways around that during the phone call activation (although non-automated at that point.) -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
