Guest gensulitor Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 For a few years now, windows has automatically installed updates in the process of shutting down. Each time it shuts down it installs the same ones, and new ones which accumulates. I'm assuming its installing them over and over again because they fail to install. I tried doing the automatic update downloader//installer and it said: "the following updates were not installed: Security Update for Windows XP (KB920683) Security Update for Windows XP (KB913580) Security Update for Windows XP (KB908531) Security Update for Windows XP (KB920213) Security Update for Windows XP (KB926255) Update for Windows XP (KB922582) Security Update for Windows XP (KB932168) Security Update for Windows XP (KB914388) Security Update for Windows XP (KB902400) Security Update for Windows XP (KB925902) Update for Windows XP (KB910437) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP (KB933566) Update for Windows XP (KB927891) Security Update for Windows XP (KB924496) Security Update for Windows XP (KB924270) Security Update for Windows XP (KB911562) Security Update for Windows XP (KB928255) Security Update for Windows XP (KB922819) Security Update for Windows XP (KB924191) Security Update for Windows XP (KB927779)" Obviously something is FUBAR, but I'm not sure if theres a quick fix. Thanks for any help.

Guest MysteryUpdates Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 I haven't a clue of how to resolve this ... but over and over I'm being prompted about these updates that are failing to install... Guest robert.curry Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 First check your event logs to make sure nothing fishy is going on with your system... If nothing in the event log looks out of the ordinary, then move on to clearing the updates out and redownloading them... Right click My Computer and select Manage, expand Services and Applications and select Services, scroll down to Automatic Updates and stop the service. Then browse to C:\windows and delete the SoftwareDistribution folder, then restart the Automatic Updates service. Then try and reinstall the updates....
