Cannot Install Updates After Download

Recommended Posts

Hi:

I just refomatted my Sony VGC-716G and Windows Update worked fine with the

last update being SP2. Then I upgraded to MCE2005 to complete my

reformatting where I would have Windows XP MCE2005 back.

I now have 82 High Priority updates that I cannot install for whatever

reason. I deleted the Software Distribution Folder and Windows built it back

automatically. Next I ran Windows Update and it downloaded all 82 of them ,

but when it started initializing for install they all failed. I have tried

three times and I can get all updates to download, but none will install.

Any recommendations to resolve this issue will greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Col Tom

Try this:

Get Dial-a-Fix:

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Use its options to fix:

- Windows Installer

- Windows Update

- All the Registration Center options.

Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"

Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".

Then click "GO" and wait until it is done... Reboot may be needed.

- Download/Install Windows Update v3.

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91237

(You may need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce" right

after an additional reboot - immediately after logging in.)

- Download/Install the 927891 patch.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A81B0CD-A0B9-497E-8A89-404327772E5A

- Reboot.

- Come back and let us know how things went!
