Failing updates problem fixed but no display in ADd/Remove menu

I recently did a repair install of Windows XP Pro and found that Windows

Updates would fail. There were 79 updates that would be marked as done

during the run but then at the end would flash a menu indicating that all

failed. Then the automatic updates would repeat all updates the next time.

I found a program on the Internet called "dial-a-fix" which fixed something

that permits the updates to work. However, now there is no list of them in

the Add or Remove Program menu. Only the Windows Installer shows in the

list. My worry is whether there is still some problem in the update which

can come back to haunt me.

Is the " Show updates " box checked when you open Add/Remove Programs ?

To confirm that the updates are installed go to

Start > Run > copy and paste this into the Open: line

%windir%\softwaredistribution\reportingevents.log

Click OK or press Enter

Scroll down towards the bottom of the log for the most recent entries.

Do the updates show as " Installation Successful: " ?
