Guest vcandys49 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I got a blue screen.."problem..file nv4_disp..driver got stuck in an infinate loop...update driver..." Driver update failed 3 times. I have to turn computer on/off/on/off/on dozens of times before WIN will try to start. Then I get black screen (safe mode, etc). I've searched Help/Support for hours and hours and tried everything I could figure out to do. Restore to previous time, etc. Each time I try to "restart" it won't shutdown - I turn off, then on/off/on/off/on etc. and I'm back where I started. I'm in safe mode w/ networking now and have saved my docs to copy to CD-R before I resort to RECOVERY. The Wizard does not recognize the (new)inserted disk and can't copy to the "empty" E:CD Drive. I don't know where to go for help.
Guest realcestmoi Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Hi there, It sounds like a driver update has been done? Hopefully you did not take any non MS driver(s) from windows update? Never take drivers from windows update unless they are intended for Microsoft hardware. If an updated driver is needed because the hardware does not work proper go to the manufacturers website to look for an updated driver. If it ain't broke: do not try to"FIX" it. If you did take the optional drivers from windows update try booting last known good configuration from the startup menu (f8 during boot), rolling back on the driver or use system restore in safe mode prior to a date of the problem or restore from the full system backup you hopefully made. Assuming you are using Windows XP: here you can see how to roll back on a device driver: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/driverrollback.mspx You can disable the update in question appearing when automatic updates is set by going to the windows update website and unmark (hide) driver in question. Guest NC Rahvin Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I would first of all check your BIOS/CMOS for a setting that says "reboot on error" this could be causing the computer to continuously reboot. If in fact it is, when I read your post it sounded as if that was happening. This will stop the rebooting so you can fix the driver issue. Guest realcestmoi Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 The driver is faulty and a blue screen appears and the machine is standard by windows settings set to reboot on an error: so no Bios issue.
