Guest Harry Johnston [MVP] Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 shawnr wrote: > both are ver 5.6. Did you check the version of the actual DLL files, or just the installed version of VBScript/Javascript? (Normally you'd expect them to be the same, but that isn't true in this case.) You can check the file version by navigating to c:\windows\system32, selecting jscript.dll, right-clicking, selecting Properties, and going to the Version tab. Please let us know the full version number, and also the modification date and file size in bytes. The reason I ask is that IE7 includes version 5.7.0.5730 of jscript.dll and vbscript.dll, so it shouldn't be possible to have version 5.6 if IE7 is installed. Harry.

Guest shawnr Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 From the bulletin MS08-022: "Systems with Internet Explorer 7, which is delivered with VBScript.dll version 5.7 and JScript.dll version 5.7, are not affected by this vulnerability." The machine I tested with has ver 5.6 of both installed, but I would not know from what installation. There seems to be a conflict in the detection of this update.
Guest Cj,,,,,+ Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 to : shawnr,,, and others,,,, if resolving this issue is important,,,, and then MS update has problems,,,, because the prior versions of JScript and VBScript are not what is expected,,, then downloading and installing JScript version 5.7 will resolve the MSupdate issuses,,, I know,,,, that MSupdate is now happy,,,, (no problems, with MS update),, so,,,, system is working,,,, error condition gone,,, thank you,,,, Cj.....+ "shawnr" wrote: > > From the bulletin MS08-022: > > "Systems with Internet Explorer 7, which is delivered with VBScript.dll > version 5.7 and JScript.dll version 5.7, are not affected by this > vulnerability." > > The machine I tested with has ver 5.6 of both installed, but I would not > know from what installation. Guest Cj,,,,,+ Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 to : PA Bear [MS MVP] and others,,,, back when IE7 was released for distribution, the JScript and VBScript were included,,, is it possible that when people downloaded and installed other software,, eg: VisualBasic that the mods were overlaid,,????,,, I have been using IE7 and installing all update as released,,,, and until yesterday (04-08-2008) had not noticed JScript or VBScript issues,,,, however,,, after downloading the JScript v 5.7 release date(08/24/2007) the underlying issues go away, with MSupdate,,, so,, give some thought, to the workaround,,,, again,,,, Thank you,,,, Cj,,,,,+ "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: > The point is that you should already have Vbscript.dll and Jscript.dll v5.7 > if IE7 is installed.
