Guest Tony Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Every day I get a notice Windows update wants to install the same two updates. Here is what runs when I allow then to run from Windows Update: Initializing installation... done! Installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365) (update 1 of 2)... failed! Installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366) (update 2 of 2)... Updates not installed: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365) I have downloaded and run dotnetfx.exe. Initially I ran the uninstall and received an error it could not find the source. Then I rebooted and reran it in repair mode and I get the same message. I'm running Win XP Pro sp2 w/2 gig ram. OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 How do I resolve this problem? Thanks, Tony

Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Tony, Download the automated removal tool for .NET 1, 1.1, and 2 from the link in the first paragraph here: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx > The updated version of the cleanup tool contains options to clean up the .NET Framework > 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 separately and all 3 versions simultaneously in a single step. This means that > running the cleanup tool on Windows XP Media Center Edition or Tablet PC Edition will not > offer the option to clean up the .NET Framework 1.0, running it on Windows Server 2003 will > not offer the option to clean up the .NET Framework 1.1 and running it on Windows Vista > will not offer the option to clean up the .NET Framework 2.0. That's for others, if they are reading this. Since XP Pro is installed, that's not for you <w> After downloading the .NET cleanup tool, read this: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/10/11/479928.aspx *** STRONGLY ADVISE you to TOTALLY DISABLE the installed antivirus program PRIOR to installing the Frameworks, SPs for said Frameworks, and for the security updates. If the system is on broadband, then download everything prior to starting the installation process and SAVE them. DISCONNECT from the 'net, install everything, REENABLE the AV, then reconnect **** Reinstall .NET Framework 1.1, NET Framework 1.1 SP1, and .NET Framework 2.0 from the links on the above page. Then download the updates for 1.1 SP1 and 2.0 from : ..NET Framework 1.1 SP1 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=281FB2CD-C715-4F05-A01F-0455D2D9EBFB&displaylang=en ..NET Framework 2.0 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ba3ceb78-8e1b-4c38-adfd-e8bc95ae548d&DisplayLang=en MowGreen [MVP 2003-2007] =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== Tony wrote: > Yes, I already found the link you posted.
