ofer Posted October 12, 2021 Posted October 12, 2021 The windows update process freezes every time at 75% after the second boot, forcing me to do a hard power shutdown. after that it rolls back to the original version and shows the error 0xC1900101-0x40021 (sometimes 0xC1900101-0x30018) I tried doing a clean boot as per Microsoft directions but that doesn't help (neither is disconnecting all peripherals) I tried running SetpDiag.exe and looking at the log files. at the very end of setupapi.dev.log I see the following : >>> [setup online Device Install (Hardware initiated) - {5d624f94-8850-40c3-a3fa-a4fd2080baf3}\vwifimp_wfd\5&8054060&0&11] >>> Section start 2021/10/11 14:11:41.982 ump: Install needed due to device having problem code CM_PROB_NOT_CONFIGURED utl: {Select Drivers - {5d624f94-8850-40c3-a3fa-a4fd2080baf3}\vwifimp_wfd\5&8054060&0&11} 14:11:41.982 utl: Driver Node: utl: Status - Selected utl: Driver INF - netvwifimp.inf (C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\netvwifimp.inf_amd64_bfb9fd6f3a078899\netvwifimp.inf) utl: Class GUID - {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} utl: Driver Version - 06/21/2006,10.0.22000.1 utl: Configuration - {5d624f94-8850-40c3-a3fa-a4fd2080baf3}\vwifimp_wfd utl: Driver Rank - 00FF0000 utl: Signer Score - Inbox (0D000003) utl: Driver Node: utl: Status - Outranked utl: Driver INF - netvwifimp.inf (C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\netvwifimp.inf_amd64_bfb9fd6f3a078899\netvwifimp.inf) utl: Class GUID - {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} utl: Driver Version - 06/21/2006,10.0.22000.1 utl: Configuration - {5d624f94-8850-40c3-a3fa-a4fd2080baf3}\vwifimp_wfd utl: Driver Rank - 00FF2000 utl: Signer Score - Inbox (0D000003) utl: {Select Drivers - exit(0x00000000} 14:11:41.982 dvi: Waiting for previous device install to complete. D So could it be that this driver netvwifimp.inf is causing the problem ? googling it I see it is "Microsoft Direct Wi-Fi Adapter" , but there is no such a device in my device manager , so I don't how to disable it (I tried disabling the Intel Wireless Adapter but the problem persists) I there a way I could possibly tell windows update to skip this driver ? or anything else I could try ? any advice will be much appreciated! Administrators AWS Posted October 12, 2021 Administrators Posted October 12, 2021 From the looks of the error it looks like a more prefered driver for the device is being loaded. Try removing the hardware, reboot and let Windows install the best driver. Quote
ofer Posted October 12, 2021 Author Posted October 12, 2021 I removed the WLAN card from my computer and tried again, but it freezes at exactly the same point, 75% right after third reboot this time however I get this from SetupDiag : Error: SetupDiag reports abrupt down-level failure. Last Operation: Finalize Error: 0xC1900201 - 0x40008 LogEntry: 2021-10-12 20:18:52, Error MOUPG CDlpActionCompat::ExecuteSysReqScan(809): Result = 0xC1900201 I doubt however if this is the true error because the timing is even before the actual installation starts. there are few more errors in setuperr.log : 2021-10-12 20:44:51, Error [0x08085f] MIG MigHost: CMigPluginSurrogate::LoadAndRegisterServerInThreadContext: LoadLibraryExW(C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\ReplacementManifests\Microsoft-Windows-RasServer-MigPlugin\RasMigPlugin.dll, LOAD_WITH_ALTERED_SEARCH_PATH) failed gle=0x7f.[gle=0x0000007f] 2021-10-12 20:44:51, Error [0x080863] MIG MigHost: CMigPluginSurrogate::COMGenericThreadingHostThreadProc: LoadAndRegisterServerInThreadContext() failed hr=0x8007007f.[gle=0x0000007f] 2021-10-12 21:17:11, Error [0x08085f] MIG MigHost: CMigPluginSurrogate::LoadAndRegisterServerInThreadContext: LoadLibraryExW(C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\ReplacementManifests\Microsoft-Windows-RasServer-MigPlugin\RasMigPlugin.dll, LOAD_WITH_ALTERED_SEARCH_PATH) failed gle=0x7f.[gle=0x0000007f] 2021-10-12 21:17:11, Error [0x080863] MIG MigHost: CMigPluginSurrogate::COMGenericThreadingHostThreadProc: LoadAndRegisterServerInThreadContext() failed hr=0x8007007f.[gle=0x0000007f] but the timing here also is earlier then the freeze. anyway I have no idea what any of this mean. SetupDiag didn't generate a setupapi.dev.log file this time, but I located it in C:\WINDOWS\INF and don't see any errors there, last entry is <<< [Exit status: SUCCESS] at 2021/10/12 22:06:51.526 any ideas how to proceed ? I don't think there is any other hardware I can remove (the computer is dell precision M2800 laptop) Quote
Administrators AWS Posted October 13, 2021 Administrators Posted October 13, 2021 Can you post a screenshot of the device manager so I can see what devices are loaded? Quote
Administrators AWS Posted October 14, 2021 Administrators Posted October 14, 2021 The problem is all those in other devices. You need to uninstall all of them by right clicking on them and selecting uninstall. Don't reboot until all have been removed. You'll need the driver disak for the 2 AudioWear devices. My guess is that is the device causing the problems. This could be a bluetooth printer. For the Broadcom USH driver you check this site: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000181127/download-the-broadcom-ush-drivers You'll also need the driver for the video controller. If this is a Dell or HP you should download the drivers for your specific model. Quote
ofer Posted October 14, 2021 Author Posted October 14, 2021 Problem solved! the culprit was the driver for the AMD graphics card. Apparently it is a known issue for this specific computer model (Dell precision M2800) and it has a simple fix: https://www.dell.com/community/Precision-Mobile-Workstations/No-decent-GPU-driver-available-for-M2800/td-p/6078511 anyways thanks for you assistance! 1 Quote
