IDT Audio IDT High Definition Audio CODEC took out my audio

If I do a System Restore.. WILL i lose everything I added/changed to my

computer

since I have had it? Does it take my computer back to day 1? i tried the

roll back wouldnt let me did the unstall/restall kept giving me code 10

error then couldnt find driver etc...

System restore will not touch any of your 'working' files. Any documents

you've created, changes to your agenda, etc. will not be touched, deleted,

or altered. Windows will also give you a message stating that.

I assume Windows restores an earlier version of your registry and any

drivers that have changed as well. I"m not an expert just another user.

Ok i tried to do the system restore and the backup... my backup failed.... I

WISH IT WOULD OF TOLD ME TO DO A BACKUP BEFORE the SP1!!! my computer hasnet

worked proberly since I bought it. Im so sick of Dell.... I don't know what

to do...

I've had exactly the same problem today. I spent a long time to find a

solution. This is an incredible bug !!! Now I have no more esitations : my

next computer will be an Apple !

Hi,

Same problem on a Dell Inspiron 640m running Vista Home Premium SP1 with

SigmaTel Audio.

I went through some of the same steps as listed here. My eventual solution

was:

1. Use Device Manager to uninstall the IDT High Def CODEC

2. Restart

3. Download and install latest Sigmatel drivers for my laptop from Dell

4. Restart

Fixed it nicely.

hi, im also haveing same problem, but i have an additional problem on top of

that. i can't use system restore because all my old restore points got wiped

out today when i downloaded servis pac 1, so now what?

I too was facing the same prob... My audio was gone after installing " IDT

Audio IDT High Definition Audio CODEC " ...

I even tried Driver Roll Back Option but in vain ..

Thank god .. Window Update had created a Restore Point while installing a

update.. thus i was able to Restore to most recent point.. without missing

any updates...

After going thru may sites.. it seems like thier is no option to retrieve

the sound after u install " IDT Audio IDT High Definition Audio CODEC " ..

only thing u can do is either .. Reinstall your OS (Nah Nah) or Go Back using

System Restore

and read the 9th post down (by basiltoo). There's an additional driver for

the SigmaTel that not only works to solve this 'No Playback Device' problem

but will allow SP1 to be installed as well - that was another issue for me.

Once I downloaded and installed that driver (from that Dell link in that 9th

message) I solved my 'No Playback Device' issue _and_ then was offered SP1

to be downloaded through Windows Update.

Read those posts carefully and if you see your Dell model listed for that

SigmaTel driver, you don't have much to lose.

Same problem,dell xps 420, 4 gb ram,1 tb raid 0 nvidia 8800gtx,remove

driver,reinstall original using utilities disc,hide update until IDT sort it

out doesnt microsoft check 3rd party updates?

I, too, was having a problem installing Vista SP1 on my Gateway CX210X laptop

(preinstalled with Vista Ultimate one year ago). Gateway didn't have an

updated driver, and SigmaTel wasn't making new ones, so I'd deleted the

SigmaTel Driver (from Gateway) in order to install Vista SP1 about a month

ago. Upon restart, Microsoft Update installed an IDT High Definition Audio

CODEC. Voila, I could now install Vista SP1.

Installed some other updates this afternoon, among them the MS Udate

"Optional" IDT High Definition Audio CODEC software update released in

September, 2007. The install gave me the "no audio devices installed"

message upon restart.

Unlike some other posts in this thread, I was able to "roll-back" the driver

successfully, and have the older IDT High Definition Audio CODEC back.

It finally worked.. The sound only. It will not let be do a back up or

restore... i have to fix that asap... but to all... the fix that Dave Horne

worked great.. but like he said turjn off your firewalls first... THANK YOU

Glad to hear it worked! I didn't come up with this fix, I'm just passing on

what I discovered at the Dell site. If I would have first looked there I

would have saved myself an evening with that SP1 install, reverting, and

..... repeat, lather rinse.

Hi, one day i was doing updates for my computer (i have an Acer and i'm

using vista) and i think it called for a vista update. Once i updated

it, i restarted my computer and i found a little sound icon with a red

"x" on it saying: "no audio output is installed". I don't know why it

happened. I researched what i would do on google. One webpage said:

go to control panel>device manager>find the sound card by clicking on

the plus next to Sound, Video and Game controllers. You should see

something that has a brand name with integrated audio>click on it>drive

tab>roll back driver

I did this. It said once you "roll back the driver" that the sound

should start working again. But unfortunatly when i went to the Drive

tab, it would NOT let me click on "roll back driver". i don't know why.

And now i do not now how to solve this problem, and get my sound back on

my compter.

By the way, it says my sound is a "IDH High Definition Audio CODEC".

Does anyone know how to fix this? Your help is much appreiciated!

My computer is an Apple, but I run Vista via Bootcamp. The recent "IDT High

Definition Audio CODEC" update disabled my sound card in Vista, and now -

even though I've managed to get the system to revert to the previous SigmaTel

drivers, the sound card still isn't working.

I'm very, very, very unimpressed.

Windows Update should not offer users the option to install updates that are

incompatible with their hardware. With Apples running Bootcamp, this should

be especially easy for Microsoft to avoid, because the level of

standardisation is high, and so is the user base.

I actually bought Vista because it was the only OS that was compatible with

certain audio software I use (aside from XP, which was originally intended to

have been phased out by now).

Also, the latest Apple Bootcamp update just failed to install. No Apple

updates have previously failed to install. I am pretty sure that this is

because of the sound card driver problem.

So now I can't do my work, and I can't patch my other drivers either. Thanks

I'd start by reading this thread from top to bottom.

The easist approach would be to remove or delete that IDT driver, reboot,

and let Windows supply a generic driver.

If that fails, read though all the posts here in this thread ... or go to

Acer's Support site and read of similar incidents - there will be many I

assure you.
