Guest Vince Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Hi Everyone. HP will always state NOT to update any HP Printer Updates from the Microsoft Windows Update site. All updates to a printer should be verified and downloaded directly from http://www.hp.com website. Most of these updates from Microsoft are NOT critical but generally Optional hardware updates. But, if a HP Printer update is downloaded from the Microsoft Windows Update site, Microsoft claims that if you uninstall and reinstall the Printer software the update will be gone. The update may or may not be reintroduced for download at the Microsoft Windows Update site. HP claims that uninstalling and reinstalling the Printer software will not get rid of the Microsoft update for the HP Printer. Does anyone know for sure if Microsoft or HP is Right? Thanks Vince
Guest realcestmoi Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Hi there, It is quite simple if the update on the Microsoft site appears as an optional hardware driver update than it is newer than the installed version on your PC. So if you have an older version installed the Microsoft driver update will appear. Guest LadyDungeness@Fish.Net Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Never ever download HARDWARE updates from the MS site. Ever. Always go to your manufacturer's site. The updates from MS site often cause problems -- lots of sad stories. Hide those offerings. All that being said, why update a driver if you aren't having problems? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
