Guest Bill Rueck Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I've been having a problem installing Microsoft updates for a few months. After all kinds of removing and reinstalling items in the Registry I found that Windows Installer does not appear in my Services folder. Further investigation revealed that the file MSISERVER is gone from my Registry. All the automatic updates have been failing up to yesterday [sunday] and today [Monday]. A windows security update succeeded on Sunday and THE SAME update succeeded on Monday. I don't understand how they installed when my Windows Installer does not appear in my Services folder. Someone suggested I delete Office 2003 and re-install it, but I can't delete anything because the Installer is not there. I welcome any suggestions enabling me to resume updating my computer. I'm running Windows XP Pro on a HP Media Edition Desk Top.Thanks, Bill
Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Go to Start > Run > type in [or copy&paste into the Open: line] %windir%\windowsupdate.log Click OK or press Enter Please post at least the *last* 50 or so lines of the log. Also, check the Event Viewer for errors in the Application log that show the Source as MsiInstaller. [Right click My Computer either on the Desktop or the Start Menu and choose Manage. Click the plus sign next to Event Viewer] When you locate one, double click on it. Then click the File icon located under the up and down arrows to copy it to the Clipboard. Paste that into your reply too, please.
