Introducing Windows Terminal Canary

Windows Terminal is distributed in a variety of formats. We are thrilled to announce that we are adding Windows Terminal Canary to the Windows Terminal family. Windows Terminal Canary is a new canary channel of Windows Terminal that ships nightly and includes “hot off the presses” features. This Canary channel gives users the opportunity to try new and experimental features before those features go into Windows Terminal Preview. Windows Terminal Canary can be installed side-by-side with Windows Terminal stable and Windows Terminal Preview. The Canary channel is also our least stable channel, so you may discover bugs before we have had a chance to find and fix them 1f609.png.b5fc3d4dea9374e569d09bf82df83c1a.png

If you are eager for the latest bits then Canary is the channel for you! 1faf5.png.72cd5ed5547be459063f3f30ea26d006.png

[HEADING=1]Installing Windows Terminal Canary[/HEADING]

Windows Terminal Canary is available as an App Installer distribution and a Portable ZIP distribution. Both distributions can be downloaded from the Windows Terminal repository.

The App Installer distribution supports automatic updates. Due to platform limitations, the App Installer distribution only works on Windows 11. We’re working hard to bring this option to our Windows 10 community in the future!

The Portable ZIP distribution is a portable application. It will not automatically update and will not automatically check for updates. This portable ZIP distribution works on Windows 10 (19041+) and Windows 11.

[HEADING=1]Thank you![/HEADING]

We hope that Windows Terminal Canary can become a place for you to try our new experimental features and provide us feedback as we build them. For those of you who are interested in AI, Windows Terminal Canary is the channel to be on, so stay tuned! 1f609.png.fee729bea2e34e3e0e006d27052816ad.png

If you have a feature request or found a bug, please submit an issue to our GitHub repository.

Let’s build together!
