Ongoing audio issues - no sound

Why does my audio regularly stop working? I have to keep going to help and run a troubleshooter which usually says, "there's a problem with your audio settings configuration". I think another time it mentioned "driver". Sometimes it says, "unexpected error occurred and cannot find steps to fix the issue". The sound will also disappear if I happen to have plugged in headphones, so I no longer use headphones, as it messes with the audio every time. I'm not computer savvy, and when this happens, I feel like throwing the laptop out the window (I've only this laptop a few months). I have Windows 1
