If I factory reset my Lenovo laptop will I have the same operating system etc?

I have a Lenovo laptop about 3 years old. It's not been running right and I've pretty much done all that in capable of doing. My ex had it for a while and do not know what happened to it. I've got nothing on it as for apps and 56.9 GB is used. Does not make sense. So I'm thinking of reset it. But I'm currently going to college and need it working at least. Will anything major change of I do this? Please and thank you.
