USB 1 external drive, can I still use it on windows 10

I found an older external hard drive which was USB 1 in a storage box at home, I wonder if I can reformat it and could re-use on Windows 10 computer. Do you think it is possible and safe?Any suggestion will be much appreciated.Thank you.
