Why has my Windows 10 media player suppenly stoppeed playing .WMV files correctly?

All of the sudden my Windows 10 media player stopped playing .WMV files correctly. The video is choppy to the point of being unwatchable. The files worked correctly before, so I assume this was a change made by an update (or possibly Copilot - which I thought I had turned off). Please fix, or is their something else I should do?
