updates for software not on my computer

Recommended Posts

Hi

I hope someone can help. I am running Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2.

Microsoft updates repeatedly tries to install updates which appear to relate

to software that I do not have on my computer. The updates fail to install

each time, then I am asked to reinstall next time I shut down. How can I stop

this happening?

regards

Which updates for what software?

Run a manual update & review the history

Hi DL

There are 4:

1. Security Update for Microsoft.NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1

(KB928366)

2. Security Update for Office 2003 (KB920813)

3. Security Update for Office 2003 (KB934180)

4. Update for Office 2003 (KB925251).

I have no idea what No.1 is. I don't have Office 2003 on my computer.

Although the system repeatedly tries to install these, the result is always

the same - "Installation failed". Other updates have installed OK.

Would be helpful (for you and us) if you got specific about what updates are

trying to install for what software that you supposedly do not have. -)

The first is an update for the .NET Framework - which is highly likely you

*do* have installed.

Download/run this:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A4EFC33-0343-4EE4-B0C4-97BD16967A09&displaylang=en

Let it try again.

The latter - you say you do not have Office 2003 - but do you have Microsoft

Works with Word? How about any of the Office products? Publisher, Word,

Excel, Powerpoint, PowerPoint Viewer, Outlook, etc?

Is any version of MS Works installed? A standalone version of MS Outlook?
