Guest Dwarf Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 This update (KB937143), together with several others, downloaded on 14th August. When I restarted the system, I was unable to access the Internet from Internet Explorer - I was unable to access my router as well. This also happened last month with a similar update - KB933566. Unlike last month where KB929123 prevented me from accessing Windows Mail, everything else is working normally. I uninstalled KB937143 and was able to access the Internet again. I have set these updates as 'hidden' to prevent them from automatically installing and would be grateful for any advice on how to install these and similar updates in future without having the same problems. Apart from these updates, my system is fully updated. I use Norton Internet Security which is also up to date. My system is Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (32-bit). Interestingly, the same update that installed on 8th May (KB931768) did not cause any problems at all.

I have had the same problem but with the 64 bit system.... this update (KB938979) knocked out my internet and one of the ones today did also. Any idea why? I have an evga 680i board if that helps.
Guest Wskrs Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 RE: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer in Windows Vi The updates released today August 14, 2007 render my computer unusable as well. I had to restore to just before updates. I could be wrong but seems the file or the pointer for service Base Filtering Engine is wrong or missing. With out this service, many others seem to be effected starting with DCOM and network dependancies. This seems to be the only place to report this so here it is.

Both are disabled and it also effects my display driver for some reason. After I uninstall it and reboot everything works fine again.
Guest cuggie Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 I installed the updates for Aug 14 but my computer froze up when the computer tried to reboot. Then I had a complete computer blue screen and was unable to start my computer. I had to do a clean install. Guest PA Bear Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Temporarily uninstall NIS, enable the Windows Firewall, then reinstall 937143 and see if everything's OK. Don't do ANYTHING else online without anti-virus protection! -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin DTS-L.org Dwarf wrote: > This update (KB937143), together with several others, downloaded on 14th > August. Guest Echion Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 RE: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer in Windows Vi This happened to me as well with the 64-bit OS. The BFE appears to be broken, which is a required service for both IE and the Windows firewall. Has this been confirmed or acknowledged officially yet, and is there a fix to this problem besides just not installing the update? I had to restore my system to recover.
Guest Dwarf Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 If you follow my instructions in the post 'Problematic Updates in Windows Vista', also in this newsgroup, you should be able to install this update (at least it worked for me).
