Guest Simon Pieman Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Hi I ran live updates this morning when I came into work (on my VAIO running XP). Connected to the Wireless network here as usual using the Intel PRO/Set Wireless adaptor. Tried to access the Internet using IE 7.0 - couldn't get a site. Tried to access using Firefox - couldn't get a site. Tried Safari for PC - worked fine! So I have just unistalled the latest security updates for XP and IE and it is working again. Any ideas anyone? Please reply direct if you like to simon.brookes@gmail.com.

Yes, please completely *disable* any Personal Firewall software running in the background and reenable the Windows Firewall instead. Run the updates again and you'll most likely be fine. Bye, Freudi
Guest sirwilliam Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Re: Internet Connection Problems after Latest Update (15th Aug 07, Am no expert, however just ran update and found that many of my settings for the firewall was reset and needed to be reset. At least it was easy for me to reset due to Norton identifying the specific links. A little bump in the road for that. Did find that Media player 11 failed to install. Now I'll have to checkout all my programs to find out any other problems. Well, the best advice would be, has been and still is to *not* install *any* Personal Firewall software and enable the Windows Firewall instead. Allmost *all* "connection problems" occuring after the installation of updates for Windows are based on Personal Firewall software blocking Windows components for no reason. Bye, Freudi
Guest freddy Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Re: Internet Connection Problems after Latest Update (15th Aug 07, tank you beddy much. saved most time. best answer. works. no re-format re-install windows. ) "Ottmar Freudenberger" wrote: > "Simon Pieman" <Simon Pieman@discussions.microsoft.com> schrieb: > > > I ran live updates this morning when I came into work (on my VAIO running > > XP). That's why some of us prefer our own firewall. Unwanted outgoing traffic means that you have malware/unwanted software installed on your system, which shouldn't happen at all. And yes, it's more or less easy to bypass the filter of Personal Firewall software "checking" for outgoing traffic. E.g. http://www.pcflank.com/art21.htm is still up to date like http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,2169468%7Eroot=security,1%7Emode=flat http://samspade.org/d/firewalls.html Bye, Freudi
