Guest Tom Baxter Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Hi everyone, This has been annoying me for several months now. I have a Vista 64 machine. Office 2007 is *NOT* installed on this machine yet Microsoft Update constantly tells me I have two available updates: 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1) Update for the Microsoft 2007 Office System (KB946691) Why am I constantly prodded to install updates for products I do not have installed?

Guest ato_zee@hotmail.com Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 > Why am I constantly prodded to install updates for products I do not have > installed? Back up your system to a restorable image, you should do this anyway. Then let it go ahead and install the updates. Something that installed has created the condition that flags that MS Office 2007 is installed. Maybe a time limited trial was bundled with the OS, the evaluation period expired, but traces were left behind. Did you install the system yourself, from an authentic Microsoft Retail Version disk? If so it might be worth looking through the install disk folders for any reference to Office.

Guest T Martin Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Why am I asked to install Office 2007,during the trial period, each time I want to use it? -- I couldn't figure out how to start my own thread and the previous question brought me here....so, again I ask...... "Why am I asked to install Office 2007,during the trial period, each time I want to use it?" ????????Is this a mistake on Microsoft's part?????? What a burden I must barefor ta freebie!!!! I wanted to try and maybe buy this product but it will take up too much of my time to Install this everytime I wanty to use it. If there isn't another way to try this without the installs each time, I will not be considering this for my business. Any comments?! Have an awesome day! Having said that, I am in communication with a Microsoft support rep who recommended I look for the following two registry keys and delete them if they are present. Strangely, I did have these registry keys: HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Office HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Office I'm not sure why these keys were present but I deleted them. It did not fix the problem. Guest T Martin Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Tom Baxter's question keeps getting repeated with no new resposes. That's not very helpful. His question was placed after my question, which makes no sense at all. I will be leaving this discussion group since it is a continuation of Microsoft's Office Trial wasting my time. I have fixed my problem by uninstalled my trial to Microsoft Office 2008. YEA!! A resolution that works!!!!!!!!! -- Have an awesome day! What software *have* you installed? Hmmm. I wonder if Vista itself contains some part of Office, perhaps in order to provide the ability to read Office 2007 documents? Guest Bob Buckland ?:-\) Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Hi Tom, Do you have the MS Support Case # for that contact? It's an unusual suggestion if it was just that alone. Do you have any of the Office File Viewers listed in installed programs or any of the Office/Windows/Sharepoint/Expression or Windows Live products listed in as installed via the Windows control panel? You may want to run through the steps at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218 to pull out traces of Office related apps. ================ <<"Tom Baxter" <tlbaxter99@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:5B06AFFC-13C3-4464-AFC0-3B44D3A09C1F@microsoft.com... Guest Tom Baxter Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Re: ?? Why am I Asked to Install Office Update ?? --> SOLVED Hello all, I just got off the phone with Microsoft. The problem was due to the fact that I had Visual Studio's "Web Developer Component" installed. This piece of Visual Studio relies on (and apparently includes) parts of Office 2007. So, even though I am prompted to download an Office 20007 update it is actually due to Visual Studio being installed. The Microsoft rep recommended I download and install the updates. It's confusing but at least now we know. Thanks to all who responded.
