Guest John Huetteman Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I am having problems when I enter Add/Remove Programs - none of the "change" or "remove" buttons appear so I can't add or remove anything. Also, I noticed there are a million new/old programs that I have never seen before. Since I had recently cleaned my Disc and erased all of the restore points, I can't restore my computer to a better previous time and I noticed that there was a program installed that was mentioned on the restore point called Software Redistribution Service 2.0 or something like that which is really messing everything up! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?
Guest sirwilliam Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 First, most people will ask you what operating sys you are using and you need to check if you eliminated a major update. If you have sys disc, try to restore from there. Guest John Huetteman Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. I greatly appreciate it. I am running Windows XP Home with SP2 - it's authentic. My other problem is that I don't have a system disc and my computer came with Windows installed on it so I have no discs. I purchased the computer from Boeing Industries and didn't get any discs with it. I am not sure what is going on but I think my computer has been hacked into or something really weird is going on because everytime I run a virus check, Windows Defender or LiveCare everything appears to be fine. However, when I go to Add/Remove programs, there are a million programs that don't belong there - I don't even know where they are from. I can't remove them because the Remove button is missing to everything in Add/Remove Programs! Any suggestions? If the system was on a network, and it appears that it was, access to Add/Remove Programs was most likely restricted by Group Policy. You must *insist* that Boeing provide the system disks otherwise the computer is worthless, John. Think driving a car with no way to get it running again if something goes afoul. That's the situation that you're in now. *STRONGLY* suggest that you burn everthing that you want saved from said system to CDs, ASAP. You're walking a tightrope with no safety net ! I guess I didn't really realize just how serious the problem was. I thought that maybe - well, never mind! I will probably sound really stupid so I will spare myself!!! Thanks, again. I will do what you suggested and get the discs from the IT person who sold me the computer. If not, I can always wait until payday and just upgrade to Vista. I was just trying to spare myself since I have been out on disability for a couple of months but I am going back to work and hopefully will have enough by the time I get paid to just shell out for Vista.
