Office 2003 Updates Failed

I'm running Windows XP Professional and I have three Office 2003 updates that

failed. I've tried rebooting and trying again. I ran the troubleshooter on

the update website and followed the instruction to check and start the ose

service (which was running as it should be). The updates still won't

install. They are 1. Security Update for Excel 2003, Sercurity Update for

Office 2003, and Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter.

Does anyone know why this happens and how can I get these updates installed?

Thanks.

While the download took a longer than expected time, they eventually downloaded

and installed, without errors.

I don't know who Notan is, but his comment has nothing to do with my

question. If anyone knows the answer to my original post I'd appreciate

hearing it. Thanks.

I have the exact same problem with the same updates, same OS and same Office.

They just won't install. Anyone?

I had same problem, but just solved it.

1. Go to your Update History, and click on the failed update for one of the

Office 2003 updates. You should see a display of an error code. (Mine was

0x52f. I assumeyou will see the same error code.)

2. Click on Find Solutions. Enter 0x52f in the keywords blank.

3. Click on "Office Update fails for install with error 0x52f". Follow the

guidance. FYI :

I initially couldn't get LISTOOL.exe to execute. I had the old office

toolbar from office 2000 running. Once I terminated that, LISTOOL executed,

and I was able to install the three updates with no additional problems.

Hope this helps with your problem.

WHAT "Find solutions" button to click on? I don't see it on home premium x64.

If you looked at the popup window with the error code, you should have seen

three choices for further action. "Find Solutions" was one of those three

alternatives.

It is important to follow all steps as they each lead to the next.

Hope this helps.

Give this a try. Let us know

1st Rename Office subkeys

Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user

settings for your Microsoft Office programs.

1. Close all the applications.

2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.

3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.

5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.

4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane

and click Change.

5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.

6. Select “Reinstall and Repair†and click Next.

7. Select “Detect and Repair errors in my Office installationâ€.

8. Click Install and wait the process to end.

3rd. Install the Updates

This is the third time that I have had to remove and reinstall Office 2003

since 3 June 2007. I tried your suggestion and got as far as attempting the

"Reinstall and Repair" and it stopped. I again had to reinstall Office 2003.

I know the updates were the problem because I did the "Reinstall and Repair"

before I let the updates run. After haveing this happen to me twice I set my

automatic updates to download and I'll tell you when to run. Did this to

attempt to find out why I had to reinstall twice before - slow learner -

should have done this on the once reinstall.

Now we know that the updates are causing the corruptions of Office 2003. The

question now is "What can be done to prevent it from happening again?"

Thanks for the rant.
