Guest Lcreech Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 An easier way I tried the methods above and continued to get the message that kb936181 successfully installed with it persisting in the updates. I saw this on another site and it worked for me (Vista Ultimate Home edition) Uninstall then Reinstall KB948133 then recheck for updates. All is finally well for me. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyou.aspx?familyId=46a30073-c3df-473b-99e4-66380a5cc117&displayLang=en EggHeadCafe - .NET Developer Portal of Choice http://www.eggheadcafe.com

Guest juliebear Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Hi Freudi! I use automatic updates to do my installations and when the latest update was installed, I received the message "Some updates could not be installed". The message goes on to state: The following updates were not installed: Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181) When I read your post, I tried your first suggestion and it seems to have solved the problem. I used the link that you provided, downloaded the update, and chose repair on the selection menu when asked. Seems OK so far. I don't know if this will help anyone else. Just wanted to say thanks! Happy New Year! Juliebear "Ottmar Freudenberger" wrote: > "Ken" <sorry.no@email> schrieb: > > > Update KB936181 will not install. Guest David Cunsolo Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 KB93681 Fails to Install I had this same problem (Windows Vista Home Premium) and MS was of no help whatsoever. I had an update history of KB936181 installing every day for the last two weeks. Thanks to you all for you guidance, especially jaybart and chandler22. I removed the installations of any MSXML 4.0 (I didn't have the Parser version). Once I did that, it automatically reloaded KB936181 overnight on its regular update check. Today it seems fine and thankfully, there's no icon in the system tray telling me to install it again. Thanks to all of you for your help with those of us who "know enough to be dangerous" with our computers!

You should be able to remove MSXML 4.0 using the Add/Remove Programs control panel. For best results, do this in Safe Mode. Make sure you reinstall it afterwards, as it wouldn't be installed if there wasn't at least one piece of software on your computer using it. (Well, OK, it could have been installed by software that you've since removed.) Harry. -- Boycott Beijing 2008 http://www.rsf.org/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=174
