Guest Octavio Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 I get an "optional" update notice to the "CXT - Modems PCI Soft Data Fax Modem with Smart CP" What is this update for? If it is anounced in my computer, which has Vista operating system, does that means that I can use the update or whatever it is for in my system and that I need the update? Thanks in advance.

If your modem is working properly, don't download and install this "update". MS is famous for providing out of date hardware updates that tend to screw up your computer. Guest LadyDungeness@Fish.Net Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 No. Don't do it. Do not take the bait. It's a hardware update. Don't get those from Microsoft -- get them from your hardware maker's website. You might not even need it. Hardware updates offered through MS are, for some reason, notorious for causing problems. Guest realcestmoi Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Hi there, Taking driver update from windows update is really not a good idea unless you like having problems. An excpetion is there for MS hardware. If your hardware works fine leave it be working fine. If a driver update is needed because the hardware does not funtion well you should download an appropriate driver at the manufacturers website in.
