Guest Freewheeling Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Help! My Windows XP Pro system keeps installing the same version of Security Update for .NET Framework 1.1 SP 1 (KB928366) over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. This all started rather suddenly, with this update, over a month ago. I read some of the documentation that suggests un-installing older versions of the .NET Framework so I tried that, but the folder where the older version's files are supposed to be stored no longer exists on my system. Hence, I can't uninstall the older versions, and Update insists on installing the new security update every time I shut my computer down. If I choose not to install it when I shut down it waits until I boot back up, and installs the update itself and then restarts. Since this nonsense started Update doesn't seem to have installed any new critical updates, and it has been going on for well over a month. Is there, like, anything I can do manually to fix this? Why does the update not "take"? [Cut the "tail" in email address to respond by email.]

Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Re: Problems with NET Framework 1.1 security update (to clarify) That depends on *which* AV is installed. NOD 32 here and there have been NO issues updating. Prior to that, CA EZ-AV was installed and while it's fairly useless for most Users, I've never had to disable an AV for anything except for defragging. If any version of .NET Framework installed 'properly' and there weren't any issues with subsequent Security updates, then no action is required. Just leave 'er be.
